Insulating render: compare thin cork finishes and full insulation systems

Understand insulating render before you quote. Compare a thin SLICS cork finish with board insulation, thermal calculations, moisture design and preparation.

What does insulating render mean?

The phrase can describe very different products and assemblies. Some proposals are thin cork-containing surface finishes; others combine substantial insulation boards with reinforcement and render. Ask for the named materials, installed thickness and complete assembly before comparing performance or price.

Thin SLICS finish

SLICS™ is ECOPROCORK’s sprayed layered cork-system route for suitable exterior substrates. It may be specified within an exterior refurbishment. Its thermal contribution depends on the exact material and thickness; a thin finish must not be assumed to achieve a full insulation upgrade.

Board insulation with a render finish

A full external insulation system coordinates boards, adhesive, fixings, reinforcement, basecoat, finish and junction details. Thermal and moisture design, substrate suitability, fire requirements and installation quality all matter. Buying boards and render separately does not establish a coordinated system specification.

Five questions for a comparable quotation

What problem is being addressed? Which product and assembly are specified? What installed thickness and complete-wall thermal result are supported? How will repairs, moisture and junctions be handled? What are the access, finish, maintenance and written warranty terms? Compare installed scope rather than a bucket price or an isolated conductivity value.

Local specification enquiries

Global Plastering in South Wales publishes wider insulation and rendering experience. Bobby Hay in Cannock, Andy Mudge in Plymouth and Nicholson in Retford can discuss their listed cork scope, subject to postcode and suitability checks. Board-system competence and availability must be confirmed separately.
